Ark Encounter- Williamstown, Kentucky

16 photos
A little less than 50 miles from the Creation Museum is the Ark Encounter. It is a life size replica of Noah’s Ark.

The Ark
Similar to the Creation Museum, developers have assembled an interior of how they think the original Ark may have looked based on Biblical studies.
The Ark presents with a ground floor entrance with ADA approved ramps to decks 1-3. There are also elevators on each deck.

The designers admit that they have taken Ark-tistic license with some interpretations.
The developers have given the wives names so that the reader can distinguish who's who.

Once again, if you don’t want to read to understand the meaning or interpretation of each exhibit, this isn’t the place for you.
This is a collage of three scenes depicting building the Ark along with preparation of food. Run by animatronics, the men speak and doubt Noah and his folly for building an Ark.
Each diorama has a plaque so that visitors will know what scene is being depicted.

In this scene preparation is being made to stock the ark with necessities
Some of the displays run by animatronics allowing the figures to move and speak.

How did they feed the animals?

This Biblical theme park is huge. The Ark alone immense. I have shown you a tiny fraction of the exhibits inside the Ark. I never did make it to deck three.
In addition to the Ark Encounter there is an exotic animal zoo, numerous eating places, Family playground, ziplining, monument walk, aviary, gardens, camel ride, live shows on stage and more.

This post is not to sway anyone toward any type of beliefs or disbeliefs. This is simply a post on a place I visited.

Just for fun😀

Creation Museum- Petersburg, Kentucky

If you only want to see the pictures, there are 10

This post is not to sway anyone toward any type of beliefs or disbeliefs. This is simply a post on a place I visited.

This Biblical park contains not only the Creation Museum but other features of interest. The property has camel rides, a zoo of unusual animals such as a zorse which is a cross breeding of a zebra and a horse. Maybe you’d prefer ziplining or panning for gems at the Mining Sluice. These are just a few of the activities visitors can choose.
Creation     Corruption     Catastrophe     Confusion     Christ     Cross     Consummation
If you don’t want to read, don’t go inside the Creation Museum. Each display explains what it is being depicted. The existence of dinosaurs is woven into the story of the Creation as you can see by the huge skeleton that greets you in the lobby.
The story of Adam and Eve takes place through a series of dioramas. Visitors take a self-guided tour that begins with Eden and ends with the Fall of the couple.

Further relation to sin and the future is portrayed
through a flash of scenes showing a man watching a screen and it is said to be pornography, a girl calling an abortion clinic and other scenes of  acts considered to be sinful

The museum and its designers purpose is to show a "literal interpretation of the Genesis creation...in the Bible." (creationmuseum.org.)

Barbie Turns 60

If you’re expecting a large exhibit of Barbie dolls you’ll be very disappointed. THERE WERE NO BARBIE DOLLS IN THE EXHIBIT.

EXCERPT     “Barbie: Dreaming of a Female Future takes a critical look at Barbie on the occasion of her 60th anniversary. In the past six decades, Barbie’s many careers and enduring independence have influenced the dreams and imaginations of young people around the world. At the same time, her impossible appearance and physique promoted narrow and unattainable body ideals. This exhibition offers an immersive experience where visitors can explore their relationship with Barbie through a reimagined, modern dream house.

Opinions are yours. Everybody has one or more.
(I've highlighted the areas of the museum's description in the excerpt above to correspond to my opinions below of the presentation.)

For me the display was just that...a depiction of  Barbie’s Dream House . I saw nothing representing Barbie’s many careers and how it has "influenced the dreams and imaginations...".  There have been many careers/themes of Barbie over the years. According to Mattel she has had over 200.   In actuality it was the same doll wearing a new costume with additional costumes and props to fit the theme.

At this exhibit I  saw no careers displayed.  I found most of it to be a smorgasbord of various artists giving their rendition of the  Barbie Dream House with it's shallowness and girliness  lumping it all in the gallery.

Panoramic view

Naturally children wanted to touch. Visitors could touch anything except pictures on the wall.

Everything on this table was glued down.

There were short films of  unusual Barbies and Kens in various  situations
mostly unflattering. One showed Barbie asleep in the car with her mouth
open, showing all of her teeth, snoring. Meanwhile Ken is driving and  isn't pleased
with how the date is going.   The real Barbie shows only her top teeth when she smiles.

I found this wallpaper interesting. This is a closeup of it from the above picture.

There was a  Scavenger Hunt sheet available if you wanted to find the items listed in the pictures. I did.

Barbie's physique has been a topic of discussion . It's felt that the doll gives young girls the idea that they should strive to look the same.  Bombarded by social media, magazines, pop stars and the like have made some youngsters feel inadequate and question their self worth. Positive role models of all shapes, sizes, colors and reassurance that everyone is different is necessary for young people in today's world.

At age 60 Barbie might possibly look like this.
And it's okay. True friends love you no matter what.

Domino Necklace

You know what they say, "Go big or go home."
My going big was to make a Domino necklace just for fun to wear to my first  Seniors Masters Tournament.

  1.  I usually will lay out things I plan to use in a craft project. The Dominoes were only $1 at the Dollar Store.  They measure about 1 1/4 x 1/2 inch. I wrapped the ones I didn't use in the plastic wrap you see and placed them in one of my craft bins. I didn't want them all over the place. I used a drill with a small bit to put holes in the tops of five dominoes. I also got the bit stuck in the drill and can't get it out.☹️ That's another story.
2. Since the pips were varicolored, I used a  white Sharpie to cover them.
3. I took 4 rhinestone sets from the roll of rhinestones (I'd bought it for another project and couldn't use it.) to make the bar between the pips. Individual rhinestones were used for each pip.
4. I decided to use a pearl necklace I'd begun some time ago and a remnant of chain I had for the necklace.

5. I placed the dominoes in equal places on the pearl portion.

6.  I measured where I wanted my necklace to fall. I attached the pearl section to the chain with jump rings. Then placed the lobster clasp on the back.

I was satisfied with the outcome of the necklace. The only thing I had to buy were the dominoes.  I guess you'd say it cost me $1.10.

Dominoes Masters Games

About six weeks ago I began attending a Senior Center (SC) not far from me.  The SC offers numerous programs geared toward  keeping older folks active mentally and physically.

I began playing dominoes with a couple of people and enjoyed it.  I learned that the Masters Games would be held for three days in August. I’ve never been in a tournament and  wanted to be a part of it. There was a $15 entry fee which I suppose would cover charges for the medals and etc.   Participants could sign up for as many games as they liked and pay only one entry fee.

Day 1      Horseshoes, Billiards, Bowling, Dominoes (Singles).

Day 2      Nerf Ball & Frisbee, Basketball Free Throw,
Softball Throw, Checkers,  Table Tennis, Rook
Day 3      Dominoes (Doubles), Shuffleboard. Pickleball

I soon discovered that there’s more to Dominoes than what I learned as a child. Terms such as spinner, mugging and counting points were foreign to me. Fortunately, one of the people I was playing with at the SC is a Dominoes guru. He taught the rest of us the ins and outs of the game.
This is not to say I became an ace player but I did gain knowledge about the game.

Before Game Day, people participating in the Masters were given a book with a whole passel  of  rules for each game.
The rules
The rules were staggering for a novice like me. And there would be judges.
I only signed up for singles.
The judge reads the rules and answers any questions before game play.
She is also the time keeper.

For some reason I thought there would be monitors walking the floor to make sure we were following the rules to the letter and not cheating.
However, the judge was the only official. She went over to a table and began using her phone.  When time was up she told us so, came around , got the scores and  told us we were free to leave. L.S. won the two out of three games that we played together.  Easy Peasy.

In  Dominoes Singles L.S. and I ⭐⭐QUALIFIED ⭐⭐for the State Games  and so did everyone else because there weren’t enough players for each age division.😊

Little victories are better than no victories.

Of course I had to make a Lucky Domino necklace for the occasion.  You’ll see that in tomorrow’s post.

BTW--
August 31, 2019 signaled the halfway mark of my self-imposed challenge of blogging at least once a week for six months.
Why did I make this challenge? I don’t often set goals. This was an opportunity to set a goal I thought I could accomplish by doing something I enjoy.
