Pretty Blue Pot-UGLY

The good, bad, and UGLY-again

Pretty Blue Pot

But Wait ,There's More...
It's not a complete loss. I recycle whenever I can.
I don't own a printer ( I've had three. Ink cartridges are a rip off) so the title is handwritten.

As for the blue container...
It's not over. It shall return.

Dried flowers and Greenery-SHORT

It was a  beautiful basket of flowers sent in condolence.  The colors were so bright and cheerful even at a gloomy time.

I've dried hydrangea blooms before . I decided to try my hand at these.

Greenery and blooms were dried for about 8 weeks.

The Results

The fragile flowers were unable to withstand
drying. Nor did I want to try pressing them inside a book. The roses did well.
Greenery and what was a red rose. The greenery took on a silvery, sage hue.

I may place a few glass beads in the bottom of each vase.

Wreath? Rectangleth?

Thanks to GJ and her husband MJ for cutting the stick I needed for the branch.👍

Wreath - means round/circular.  This one isn't. It's a rectangle. So is it a Rectangleth? Never heard that word before. I'll leave it at Door Decoration (DD).
It's fall, one of my favorite seasons.  I wanted to use up some of my craft stash (so that I can buy more 😄) and free up space in my crafting area.

It didn't look full enough so I brought it back in.
😞  No

Fuller  and better . I like it.

Just needed a little more fluff

Happy Fall Everyone!

Falling for fall

(If you just want to see the pictures scroll down)

I enjoy fall. The changing of the leaves, the crisp weather.  Deciding to decorate my front door, I needed some inspiration.  I consulted Pinterest, YouTube, and Google.
I decided on a scarecrow decoration  similar to the one  I viewed at Jody’s Craft Room

Materials
$Dollar Tree items included:
Cream colored straw hat (I painted it light brown)
Light orange raffia
Fall colored flowers and berries
Wire edged ribbon

Other Items I already had on hand
A pair of old black & white clip on earrings with backs removed.
Small orange pom pom balls
Paper flowers with pearl center.
Orange and beige earrings
Acrylic paint and brush
Hot glue and glue gun
Newspaper, plastic bag, heavy string (for stuffing and hanging)

The hat was an ecru color but I choose to give it a wash with brown acrylic paint for more of a fall look. Though it looks like straw, 60% of its fiber is paper. So, it should not get extremely wet or you'll have paper pulp.

Items used for facial features

Hot glued the raffia for hair

I added earrings but, they don't show up on the finished product.

I admit I had problems making the bow.

The back of the hat with a stuffing of newspaper inside a plastic bag to add weight. A string to hang it on the door hook.
The finished product on the door at night.

Close up

I later went back and cut the hair shorter.  Have a wonderful fall.

Broccolini-It's the skinny one

Broccolini®, known in Europe as asparation and in the United States as baby broccoli, is a trademark of the Mann Produce Company, which developed the hybrid between broccoli and gai lan, also known as Chinese kale. The unique vegetable resembles broccoli or asparagus in physical appearance, with long stalks topped by delicate buds. (picture and text copied from wisegeek.org)

I took a chance on planting a few back in September.I knew it was a cole crop You understood correctly, "cole" not "cold". Others in that family are cabbage, broccoli, brussels  sprouts, cauliflower. I call them the stinky veggies because most give off an odor when cooked. It's my understanding that it's the sulfur in them that's released when cooking.
I started out with one pot but since I had  eight plants I had to find more pots.
This is just after planting. I eventually added another pot. I left them in a sunny area. When we had cold snaps, I didn't bother covering them since they are cooler weather  crops. I did  fertilize them once using the bottled directions.

You can see they've grown quite a bit.

You can see where the broccolini heads a beginning
to set. In the meantime I've discovered that the leaves on broccoli and broccolini are edible, You cook them the way you would any other greens.

                        I ATE THE LEAVES

I cut a few leaves from the larger plants. They aren't very large so they aren't tough or bitter. I washed them and tried them on a towel.
Placing a little oil, onion  and garlic in a cast iron pan, I added the chiffonaded leaves, salt and pepper. I sauteed them the way I would spinach, then added a little water, placed a top on it and let it steam a few minutes.  Larger leaves may require more cooking similar to collards.

After plating, I tasted the results and it was delicious. I plan to do this again but I'll give my plants a chance to grow before I pick it bald.
