SHORTS (2) : melt and pour soap; shower curtain rings

Melt & Pour Soap
One of the local libraries had a melt and pour soap class. I've used the glycerin soap in the past to make my own soaps. I always used food coloring to color the transparent soap. I never used the fancy molds similar to what was used in the class. Still it was fun getting with others and enjoying each others company.

SHORT: Black-eyed Pea Salad

Wanting a meatless meal but also wanting to get the necessary nutrients and protein, I tried this salad. I'd heard about it but, had never tried it.  I did make some substitutions and negations.  The following recipe is from Taste of Home.

Black-Eyed Pea Salad

Ingredients

  • 2 cans (15-1/2 ounces each) black-eyed peas, rinsed and drained
  • 2 cups grape tomatoes, halved
  • 1 each small green, yellow and red peppers, finely chopped
  • 1 small red onion, chopped
  • 1 celery rib, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons minced fresh basil
  • dressing:
  • 1/4 cup red wine vinegar or balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon stone-ground mustard
  • 1 teaspoon minced fresh oregano or 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
  • 1/4 cup olive oil

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine peas, tomatoes, peppers, onion, celery and basil.
  2. For dressing, in a small bowl, whisk vinegar, mustard, oregano, salt and pepper. Gradually whisk in oil until blended. Drizzle over salad; toss to coat. Refrigerate, covered, at least 3 hours before serving.

Substitutions and Negations

*I used peas I'd cooked. I  overcooked them but, I'll know better next time.

*I used a regular tomato. No red onion so I used white. No celery so I used cucumber. No basil so I used salt and pepper, added cheese.

*I used bottled vinaigrette  dressing.

I enjoyed the salad and I'd make it again.

SHORT: French Press Coffee

French Press Coffee

My friend RM, a fellow coffee drinker, gifted me with a French Press coffee pot with two matching coffee mugs and a roasted bag of coffee.

I've never used a French Press so I went to a trusted source for directions. After viewing several YouTube videos πŸ˜‰ I tried it.

Part 1-:44 sec.

Part 2- :54 sec.

After it was all said and done, I have to admit the coffee had a smooth taste. I was able to drink the whole cup without cream and I always add some form of cream to my coffee. However, all of the prep `a- la- YouTube is more than I'd like to do. I may do this from time to time , just not everyday. Thanks RM for expanding my coffee horizon.

* I discovered I should have said "grounds" instead of "grinds" when I referred to the spent coffee residue.

Follow up: Faux Leather Redo now with shoes

Remember Faux Leather Redo

It was the peeling purse that got a make over?    After that makeover I decided to get shoes to match.

I purchased these inexpensive white stretchy sandals from a local shop.

I used the same leather paint that I used on the purse. (Neither the purse nor shoes are leather but, this product works great.)

After painting and allowing the shoes to dry, I blinged them up with some fake rhinestones and jewels.
Here's a close up. I used E-6000 to glue on the bling.
Unfortunately, I didn't get to wear the shoes to the affair I'd bought them for because...
